You may have heard me say this before… I NEVER get sore from my workouts.
Don’t get me wrong: I work hard, I lift heavy, and I always do my best. …But I’m also VERY consistent. Exercise is like brushing my teeth or getting dressed.. It’s just something I do every day.
I choose to do CrossFit as my main way of staying generally fit. It’s where I build my strength and conditioning. But I like to play outside too.
My days “off” I’m generally hiking, biking and generally staying active. I enjoy boxing and pilates and yoga every now and again. The point is variety makes exercise FUN for me, and making exercise fun allows me to stay so consistent with it because I truly ENJOY it.
How am I able to do CrossFit 5-6 times a week and not get injured? Good question.
If you subscribe to the “No Pain, No Gain” model of exercise then you don’t belong in my gym. We teach sustainable, healthy lifestyles that make you fitter over time.
This means I go about a 7 out of 10 in my workouts most of the time. This allows me to recover quickly so I can train day after day. By training daily, I can get fitter than someone who SMASHES themselves in a workout, but then has to take 2-3 days off to recover.
Not only am I consistent with my training, but I pay attention to my lifestyle. Getting 8 hours or sleep and drinking a ton of water go a long way to help me feeling good. I don’t guilt myself if I miss a training day, although I do notice that I feel more sluggish when I don’t get to workout. I just tell myself to get back on the bandwagon when I can and pick up where I left off.
I also couldn’t do all of this without the help of a great coach. When I’m unsure about my form, when I need that extra push or someone to share my successes with… my coaches are there for me. If you’re not already working with a coach, then help get yourself to the next level of consistency by getting one… ASAP!
